Welcome to the Japanese Studies major. This video will provide you with an overview of the classes you should register for during your first semester at USF. A student typically registers for 16-18 credits per semester. 4, four credit courses and perhaps 1 or 2 credits of extracurricular activities. Of these 4 classes, it is important that you register for Japanese 101. Japanese 101 (First Semester Japanese) and Japanese 102 (Second Semester Japanese) are prerequisites for all courses in Japanese Studies. If you are continuing your Japanese language education, you should take the Foreign Language Placement Test and register for the course you are placed into. For your remaining 3 courses, consider these options: You may want to consider registering for a History core course. HIST 130 East Asian Civilization is a particularly relevant choice for your Japanese Studies Major. It covers Core requirement C2 as well as core requirement CD. You can register for a first-year seminar or a transfer year seminar. These seminars serve as a great introduction to the academic environment at USF. These seminars will also fulfill a Core requirement. You can enroll in Public Speaking which is an important course to take early in your college career. This course fulfills your Core A1 requirement. You can also consider taking a Rhetoric and Composition course. Developing good writing and speaking skills is essential to your success in the classes you will take at USF. You should know which class to register for. If you do not, please review the chapter on the core curriculum and take the directed self placement. Or you can take any other course from any of the core areas such as math, science, ethics or philosophy. There are also many 1-2 credit courses that you may like to consider. It is important for you to review your degree evaluation to determine which courses you need to complete. Spend some time navigating the Schedule of Classes to familiarize yourself with the layout of the website. Look for courses that you would like to register for, including specific sections. Spend some time doing this to find a schedule that works for you. For example, try to spread your courses out evenly across the week. You should also keep a back up list in case some classes are closed. Once you have completed the Webtrack quiz, you will be eligible to sign-up for classes when registration opens. After you register we will review the classes you have selected. If necessary we will recommend course adjustments.
